Rortvedt became the second Yankees receiver to suffer an injury this spring. Austin Wells is dealing with bruised ribs and has been shut down from baseball activities.

that's annoying. Little injuries kept him from being much of a factor last year and now the beginning of the regular season.

Has to be working out too much. Remember the photos from the Minnesota days where he was jacked? I think that caused the injuries last season.

You think he's doing too many pinky curls?

Rortvedt, meanwhile, has been bothered by a finger ailment that doctors had been unable to pinpoint in recent days. He met with a specialist yesterday. The operation addressed an aneurysm near the posterior in his left shoulder, which had impacted the circulation in his hand and finger. He’ll be shut down from all baseball activity for at least the next month.

So I guess it could have been lifting related ... They guy clearly over dose it in the gym

over excersizing can raise blood pressure which can lead to an anyuerism bursting, but I don't think there is any evidence that it can CAUSE one.  Indeed, moderate excersize is believed to reduce the frequency of certain types, particularly abdominal.

I've never heard of the two being related.

Overly muscled guys can be more prone to strains/sprains/tears.

Legend has it that Lou Gehrig auditioned for the role of Tarzan in a Hollywood movie and did not get the part because he was "too muscular" !

I'm pretty sure that these things can be from repetitive high stressful motions ... I remeber thats what they said about David Cone we he had it

I could certainly see repetive bench pressing or shoulder exercises causing something like that

I've never once heard of a pro weight lifter missing a competition because of an aneurysm.

Well now you have.

How closely do you follow pro weight lifting?

Causes of Subclavian Aneurysms

Atherosclerosis. Thoracic outlet syndrome. Trauma. Connective tissue disorders like Marfan syndrome.

Anything which increases muscle size, particularly in sports, such as weight lifting, can potentially cause TOCS. Pressure on the deep nerves (brachial plexus) can cause aching in the neck, shoulder, arm or hand. This is sometimes accompanied by numbness in the forearm and a tingling in the fingers.

Spike in blood pressure may make weight lifters vulnerable to aortic aneurysm
