They aren't going to add him to the 40-man and start his arbitration clock unless they think he's ready to start. I'd more likely see him in AAA at least until that May or June date that will save the Yankees another year of control.

Feh. I don't give a rat's buttocks about the clock.

You don't but the Yankees (and most MLB teams) have made it clear that they do. I just don't see the Yankees adding him to the 40 man unless a trade happens in the infield.

yup it's all about having that additional year of salary control.

I can see Volpe getting called up after a few weeks just for that extra year of control.

How would they fit him on the roster? Who's going to be traded or released? Where does Peraza play if Volpe is the SS? If he's the 2b, where does Gleyber play? Does Cabrera get any PT at 2b/ss? Where does IKF fit in? You would have 1) Rizzo 2) DJLM 3) Torres 4) Peraza 5) IKF 6) Donaldson 7) Cabrera and then 8) Volpe. They're not going to carry that many infielders. Something would have to give. My guess is Volpe starts at AAA where he'll play everyday and only has 22 games of experience. He'll be up if there are injuries and/or trade(s) made.

Welcome to the 2023 NY Yankees not to mention teams in recent years. We may have young guys that are ready to play and yet we can't have them up here because we have too many stiffs on this roster that do not belong. If Volpe is ready then you trade IKF or put Peraza at AAA. One of the 2 young guys will make this team the other will end up at AAA due to the roster glut. Donaldoson, IKF and Hicks are taking 3 spots that in a perfect world should be filled by the young talent or in the case of the OF a legitimate starting LF.

Unless there is a season ending injury with Falefa, Peraza, Cabrera, etc. I don't see Volpe in the Bronx as he has options..

It's not even that he has options. He's the only one who is not on the 40 man roster. They're not making a 40-man move unless they're 100% satisfied that he's going to fill an every day role from day 1.
