www.nj.com/yankees/2023/03/yankees-antho... Anthony Volpe is on track to do big things for the New York Yankees soon. The 21-year-old is the Yankees top prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and No. 5 prospect overall. He got an invite to spring training and the opportunity to compete for the prize of the starting shortstop title. Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner-Falefa are also in the mix, but according to Dan Martin of the New York Post, one scout thinks that Volpe will end up being a second baseman. “He’s always reminded me of Dustin Pedroia,” the scout said. “He’s on the small side, like Dustin, yet he hits everything with authority. And he plays the game like he’s on fire, which [Pedroia] did, too.”

They could do a lot owrse than having a Dustin Pedroia clone as their 2B for the next 10 years or so (minus the injuries). And spare me the BS bashing Pedroia solely because he played for the Red Sox.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Any team would kill to have a player like Pedroia.
While I'd be more than happy if Volpe emerged as a Dustin Pedroia clone, that still leaves the Yankees in need of a shortstop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Next year...Peraza to SS, Gleyber to 3B.

I've always kinda thought that hating a player solely because he played for abnother team, especially when accompanied by childish name calling (Big Sloppy"), displayed a level of maturity somewhere along the level of a 4th grade boy who did not like girls because they were icky.

The writings that I have posted over the years have indicated that Volpe is a legit defensive SS, but not an elite one like Peraza.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Agree...100%. As for Pedroia...most probably know that he gave up his college scholarship to another player to play on the ASU team. He also battled and beat out Ian Kinsler for the SS position, which led to Kinsler transferring to Missouri.
I want Peraza to become the SS with his superior defensive skills, but if Volpe is the SS, I don't have major concerns similar to Torres playing SS.
