Amazing how somethings never change. I can't get the image of a team that could not hit in the playoffs last year.

How many teams would have as good a lineup as the Yankees if you took their 2 best players out of the Lineup?

I do not take it as Raymond saying out of the lineup. Its more aside from DJ and Judge meaning the other 7 in the lineup. On that premise there are a few including Houston, Toronto, Atlanta, Phillies, Dodgers.

Its a valid point coming off of the last few years and playoff failures. Last year the team hit under .200 in the postseason. DJ was hurt and Judge did not have a good post season plus they pitched around him. Until this team prodices in the post season this is more fact versus fiction.

Dodgers were the only team in the MLB that scored more runs than the Yankees last season

Dodgers lost Lux, Bellinger, T.Turner and J.Turner

Astros were 8th in Runs scored and Behind the Yankees in OBP and OPS OPS+ Altuva is out for at least 2 months

Yankees definitely top 5 offense

Only 1 Team wins the WS every year  ... It doesnt mean that they had the best offense.

You could argue they Yankees opponents pitched better

It's whoever gets hot at the right time and that is completly unpredictable

3 of the last 5 WS MVPs

  • Jeremy Pena (Good Young Player Rookie had a .715 OPS during the season caught fire in the playoffs) doesnt mean he will bat .400 every WS
  • Jorge Soler (Was that Obvious ?? Should he be on every contenders wish list)
  • Steve Pearce (Out of baseball a year later)

Results on the field are not random. Results are about how teams cope with random events. You can use statistics to buttress any position you take. You can't use them to change the final score of the game.

Luck always plays a role, but the Astros won because their organization does a better job of putting together a roster with depth and diversity. You can give all the season stats you want, but after July 22 the Yankees were a 500 team. Nor did the Yankees hit against the Guardians. Nothing unpredictable occurred in the postseason.
