BB fans are getting screwed. This nickle and diming us to death keeps getting worse. Does MLB worry about the fact that attendance is down as well as viewership because of the cost? Apparently not.
The last time I was in the Bronx my friends son gave me a free ticket. I seem to remember the face value of the ticket was $110 in right field. It still cost me over $100 for parking, eats and a couple of cool ones. How does a typical family of four afford to go see a game? They don't.

As for watching the games on TV…I’m willing to pay the annual $150. to MLB.TV to watch all “out-of-market” games. I “watch”, or at least tune into, at least 150 Yankee games a year, so I consider that cheap entertainment @ $1.00 per game. I can also watch other games I’m interested in. But it really ticks me off when I’ve paid $150. to watch all “out-of-market” games only to have to pay additional $$$ to watch games not included which, btw, is not mentioned when buying MLB.TV.
As for attending games…I’ve previously talked about ticket prices at YS1 when I started attending games…. $0.75 bleachers, $1.50 general admission, $2.50 reserved, $3.50 box seats. Of course, we’re talking 60+ years ago, but even adjusted to today’s dollars it’s nowhere that cost. Then, as you noted, $15 beers and $7. hot dogs. Prices are lower at the airport. Not to mention parking, etc.
In 1993, as a Rockies season ticket holder, my field level seats directly behind the 3B dugout were $14.00. So, my total cost for 2 tickets to 81 games was $2,268.00. Comparable seats for the upcoming Yanks-Rockies series this July cost me $100. each, and that’s at a steep discount for committing to buying tix to all 3 games, a total of 14, before they went on sale to the general public. I believe what remained of those tickets when they went on sale to the general public were priced at $150. before quickly selling out. And those tix are relatively cheap when compared to other ballparks. Comparable tix to the upcoming Yanks-Angels series in Anaheim are around $300.
So yeah, taking a family to the ballpark today means taking out a mortgage, which is a shame. Then again, I believe the average new car costs around $45,000. Makes me feel even better to be in my “golden years”, and not have to deal with that nonsense.
