And few people saw it because no one was paying for premium cable channels at the time? They were paying for basic cable and didn't pay for extra.

All the WPIX, channel 11 (NY area) free games are now gone, which hurts fans who cannot get, or afford, subscribing to YES.

Now they are pulling games off of YES to put on Prime, Apple TV, or Peacock. I went through the YES vs cable war of 20 years ago, missing many Yankees games in one season due to their battle over pricing.

I'm not investing ever more money to buy ever more channels. It would be fine if they broadcast on those other channels while still showing the games on YES, which is supposed to be the Yankees channel. But they don't. Not a way to build current and future fan loyalty and viewership.

I pay $150 annually for MLB.TV. Fortunately, for me, I'm able to watch when games are on Amazon Prime. The last time the game was on Apple TV I bit the bullet and paid a monthly fee of approx. $8 to watch the game. I refused to pay the $5. to watch the last game on Peacock. This is ridiculous when I've already paid $150. for supposedly all out-of-market games.

It was on my 23rd birthday, and I remember it well. Like most Yankee fans in those days, I couldn't get Sportschannel on my cable system, so I heard the entire game on the radio. Glad I did, it was a great birthday gift!

My brother was at that game. He was not nearly as big a Yankee fan as me, but his friend had tickets. He said, it was the most exciting event he had ever attended.

BB fans are getting screwed. This nickle and diming us to death keeps getting worse. Does MLB worry about the fact that attendance is down as well as viewership because of the cost? Apparently not.

The last time I was in the Bronx my friends son gave me a free ticket. I seem to remember the face value of the ticket was $110 in right field. It still cost me over $100 for parking, eats and a couple of cool ones. How does a typical family of four afford to go see a game? They don't.

There is nothing like being at a game with 50,000 like-minded folks rooting, cheering and sharing in the elation of a win and the frustration of a loss. But there was always TV. And since HD came out in 2005 we have crystal clear imagery on a huge screen and the benefit of slo-mo and instant replay. And great food and drink is only a short walk away in the kitchen.

Now we don't have that convenience anymore. Today it's broadcast on this channel, tomorrow it's on that channel. I cut the cord 8 years ago because the cable bill for TV was impossible to afford on my soon to be retirement income. Most folks can't afford to go to the stadium and TV was the answer but to blackout a game because it supposedly hurts ticket sales and to spread the televised games over multiple platforms made it much harder for the fans.

And another kick in the teeth. These corporate clowns get the public to subsidize some of the cost of these stadiums, parking facilites and infrastructure upgrades via our tax dollars and this is how they repay us?

When I learned to fly 40 years ago they joked about $100 hamburgers. $3 for the burger and $97 to get there. Today, I can't afford to fly or watch a game.

As for watching the games on TV…I’m willing to pay the annual $150. to MLB.TV to watch all “out-of-market” games. I “watch”, or at least tune into, at least 150 Yankee games a year, so I consider that cheap entertainment @ $1.00 per game. I can also watch other games I’m interested in. But it really ticks me off when I’ve paid $150. to watch all “out-of-market” games only to have to pay additional $$$ to watch games not included which, btw, is not mentioned when buying MLB.TV.

As for attending games…I’ve previously talked about ticket prices at YS1 when I started attending games…. $0.75 bleachers, $1.50 general admission, $2.50 reserved, $3.50 box seats. Of course, we’re talking 60+ years ago, but even adjusted to today’s dollars it’s nowhere that cost. Then, as you noted, $15 beers and $7. hot dogs. Prices are lower at the airport. Not to mention parking, etc.

In 1993, as a Rockies season ticket holder, my field level seats directly behind the 3B dugout were $14.00. So, my total cost for 2 tickets to 81 games was $2,268.00. Comparable seats for the upcoming Yanks-Rockies series this July cost me $100. each, and that’s at a steep discount for committing to buying tix to all 3 games, a total of 14, before they went on sale to the general public. I believe what remained of those tickets when they went on sale to the general public were priced at $150. before quickly selling out. And those tix are relatively cheap when compared to other ballparks. Comparable tix to the upcoming Yanks-Angels series in Anaheim are around $300.

So yeah, taking a family to the ballpark today means taking out a mortgage, which is a shame. Then again, I believe the average new car costs around $45,000. Makes me feel even better to be in my “golden years”, and not have to deal with that nonsense.
