Billy McKinney being recalled to take Judges spot while on IL. A somewhat surprising move to me and one I'm not overly excited about.
guess that says how they feel about florial. mckinney's slashing .274/.388/.511 with nine home runs and 25 RBI in 40 games, which is decent but florial's been putting up better numbers.
The way the Cashman Yankees have treated Florial, even as he continues his AAA offensive rampage, strikes me as not just wrong but worse than that. Yes, he failed to perform well in his several but spotty major-league call-ups. But he never was given the chance to play regularly that, say, Volpe is receiving, and thus to correct or overcome his failures. Could he have done so, esp. given his strikeout propensity? I don't know. I hope he gets a chance to play regularly elsewhere next year, if only to prove the Cashman Yankees right or wrong. As it stands, if I were a young ballplayer, I'd think twice before--if I had them--surrendering my opportunities to play in Cashman's present minor league system.
All 30 MLB teams had the opportunity to open up a 40 man roster spot for Florial and none of them did. It's not just Cashman's opinion.

I realize that, but their rejection of him had as much to do with their major-league rosters being already full and/or their need or lack thereof for an outfielder as for their judgment of his ability. I'm sure he'll get a chance to play on another club once a new season begins.

also after a slow start mckinney's been on fire since the beginning of may batting .363 with a 20% K rate, so they decided to give him a look.

There's certainly something to be said for bringing up a player while he's hot. Unfortunately, McKinney has a long track record of not being an MLB quality player. Hopefully he can stay hot long enough for Judge to get healthy.

it was mckinney's turn this time as they try to catch lighning in a bottle. bauers so far has been ok. maybe they get the same out of mckinney. i'm sure a lot goes into these decisions as to who they think can best fill in and help the team.

The same thing can be said of Billy McKinney. Twice.

It's become obvious that the Yanks don't believe Florial's game will transition to the MLB. I'm neither smart enough or close enough to the situation to detrmine how accurate that is or even why they brought him back. One thing I will say, despite what has to be real dissapointment, the kid is playing pretty good. I think that has to say somthing about mental toughness.

Would have liked to see Dunham get promoted if he was hitting at Triple A, but he's not (.219). I don't expect the Yankees to promote Florial unless they know for sure that they are going to keep him on their 26 man roster. Jasson Dominguez is only 20 years old, so it's way too early for the Yankees to give up on him. He's not hitting for average at Double A. But he still has a respectable .744 OPS so far this season, which would rank 3rd on the Yankees .001 ahead of Torres and trailing only Judge's 1.078 OPS and Rizzo's .840 OPS.

Based on what Judge just said today, this looks like a multiple week recovery. Not good for the Yankees and probably not good for Judge. Was that catch worth it if we're gonna be in last place in the AL East once its all said and done?
