The Cincinnati Reds have placed Harrison Bader on the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain, the team announced Monday.
The Reds, who are a half-game out of the NL Wild Card, have 11 games left in the regular season.
Bader played in Sunday’s 8-4 loss to the Mets and had three plate appearances. He was replaced in the seventh inning, and it is not clear how he sustained this injury.
Cincinnati claimed Bader off waivers from the New York Yankees last month. On Aug. 29, he found out 10 minutes before a game that the Yankees put him on waivers from a television in a clubhouse kitchen. Then he went out and played all nine innings in a Yankees’ 4-2 win over the Tigers. Two days later, the Reds claimed him.
In 14 games with the Reds, Bader is slashing 161/.235/.194 over 31 at-bats.
The St. Louis Cardinals traded Bader, who is a Bronxville, New York, native, to the Yankees last season. He was on the injured list at the time of his trade with plantar fasciitis and was activated in Sept. 2022.
Before he was claimed off waivers this year, Bader hit 240/.278/.365 for the Yankees.

Kind of obvious he was playing hurt. May he had a .806 OPS, then the next few months it was a sharp steady decline: .688 in June, .581 in July, .515 in August, .429 in September. Doubt it was him getting tired. He tried playing through pain.
