The Yankees enjoy spending lots of money after missing the playoffs completely. After the 2008 season the Yankees have acquired 445 million dollars’ worth of free agents in contracts over one or more seasons. CC Sabathia for $160 Million, A.J. Burnett for $82.5 Million dollars, Mark Teixeira for $180 Million, Andy Pettitte for $5.5 Million, Chien-Ming Wang for 5 million and Damaso Marte for $11 Million. Sure they had to make a big splash due to opening up New Yankee Stadium; however those acquisitions have paid off dividends with the Yankees winning the 2009 World Series!
So what happened in 2013? The Yankees missed the playoffs, Mariano Rivera retires & the Boston Red Sox win the world series! Therefore the Yankees must spend a lot of money in order to make it back into the playoffs and win another world series. Brian Cashman and his team have had a big decision to make on behalf of the Yankees; do we commit $300 million dollars to Robinson Cano & Curtis Granderson ($240 million for Cano and $60 Million for Granderson) or should we spend wisely and go after 6 free agents for $307 Million? So far I can agree getting more bang for the buck seems like the logical move to do. By signing Brian McCann for $85 Million/5 years, Jacoby Ellsbury $153 Million/7 years, Brendan Ryan 5 Million/2 years, Kelly Johnson 2 Million/1 year, Hiroki Kuroda 16 Million/1 year.
I believe the Yankees have more money to spend if you use the 2008 off-season going into 2009 budget. $445 Million - $307 Million = $139 Million. I’d like to see the Yankees go after pitching! If I were GM for of the Yankees I would go after Masahiro Tanaka, Ubaldo Jimenez, Ervin Santana, Matt Garza, Fernando Rodney, Grant Balfour. I would also be willing to trade Brett Grander and Ichiro since the Yankees outfield is very full (Wells, Soriano, Gardner, Ichiro, Ellsbury & Beltran) too many cooks in that outfield kitchen!
2013 isn’t over yet and the Yankees I’m sure have several more moves up their sleeve; however I’m enjoying what I’ve seen so far and I can’t wait until the 2014 season.
I know the Yankees always have a clean shaven look. Why not change the facial hair policy and allow the Yankees players to grow beards! Hey it worked for the 2013 World Series Champions; so why not allow it for the 2014 World Series Champion New York Yankees!
The ship isn't sinking! Today was only one game. Let's not get into panic mode yet. I vow to watch the Yankees no matter what and so should you. Here's why:
The journey begins! Between now thur some point within the near future I will build my own ultimate Yankees fan cave. I will also provide videos along my way until it's done.
I think it’s time to panic. The Yankees are no longer solely in 1st place anymore. The Yankees aren’t playing like the Yankees anymore. There are 27 games left of the season. Will the Yankees at this point either win the division or even make the playoffs at their current rate of performance? Check out my latest video.
So far this season the Yankees have lost 20 games trailing behind by 1 run. 3x they have lost against the Rays at the Trop by 1 run. I also want to point out the following:
1996 Yankees lost 16 regular season games by 1 run.
1998 Yankees lost 10 regular season games by 1 run.
1999 Yankees lost 12 regular season games by 1 run
2000 Yankees lost 18 regular season games by 1 run.
2009 Yankees lost 16 regular season games by 1 run.
Last night I've visited Richmond County Ball Park in Staten Island to start David Aardsma rehab pitching assignment for the Staten Island Yankees. Within this video there is exclusive coverage of David throwing his fastball prior to his start. Check out this video.
